Electric Bill Bar, Bloorcourt's one-of-a-kind Australian-themed watering hole, will close permanently on Sunday, August 16.

Owner Casey Ryan announced the closure in a video, citing rising operational costs and "unexpected events" like the sudden loss of the bar's patio as reasons the business can no longer remain viable. "The hospitality industry is one of the greatest industries that anyone can be a part of, but it's also one of the least forgiving," Ryan said.

The bar, located at 866 Bloor St. W., was known for its dictionary-style menu presenting cocktails named after Australian slang—concoctions like the Budgie Smuggler, Big Bogan, and Good Egg. It partnered with Slow Jams for Filipino food offerings. The venue had earned a devoted local following for its friendly staff and distinct personality.

Regular patrons have more than a month to return for a final visit before the doors close for good.
