GO Transit is cutting weekend train service on several lines starting Saturday, shifting some trips to replacement bus routes as an interim measure expected to last until spring 2027.
The changes will affect mostly weekend service on the Lakeshore East, Lakeshore West, Barrie, and Stouffville rail lines, with adjustments to weekday evening service to Niagara Falls. Metrolinx said in a news release Monday the changes allow recovery from high ridership during FIFA events and provide capacity for future service needs. The transit agency cited seasonal adjustments to align service with demand, a shift of some rail service to bus to address train crew availability, and work on the Barrie and Stouffville lines.
Weekend service on the Lakeshore East and West lines will return to every 30 minutes. On the Barrie and Stouffville lines, weekday evening and weekend service will change and some trips will not run. For customers who took those lines, Metrolinx is adding bus service on replacement routes 65, 68, and 71. Those who travelled to Niagara Falls by GO train will find GO bus route 12 connecting to Lakeshore West service at Burlington GO.
Metrolinx is reinstating GO bus service to post-secondary schools starting Saturday on routes 15, 25, 29, 30, 41, 47, 52, 56, and 88. More trips are being added on routes 15, 19, 25, 27, 30, 33, 40, 41, 47, 52, and 56. Bus stops will be added on routes 30, 47, and 67. Seasonal bus service to Canada's Wonderland, Toronto Zoo, and the Toronto Premium Outlets (route 25K) ended Sunday.
