Metrolinx is shutting down the entire Lakeshore East and Stouffville GO lines this weekend for planned construction work, with replacement buses running in place of trains on Saturday, Nov. 7 and Sunday, Nov. 8.
The two closed lines total about 100 kilometres of track, with Lakeshore East at 50.5 kilometres and Stouffville at 49.6 kilometres.
On Lakeshore East, buses run on three routes from Whitby GO, Pickering GO and Ajax GO to Union Station bus terminal. Buses won't stop at Rouge Hill, Guildwood, Eglinton, Scarborough or Danforth stations during the closure, and Metrolinx advises riders to take the TTC instead.
On Stouffville, buses serve Old Elm GO and all stops to Unionville GO, then run direct to Union Station bus terminal. The replacement buses do not serve Milliken, Agincourt or Kennedy GO, and riders for those stations are advised to use local TTC routes.
The closures come on top of a planned shutdown of part of TTC Line 2 Bloor-Danforth, which will make combined GO and TTC trips harder. Metrolinx has said the Lakeshore East work is "critical track work" for GO expansion, along with utility work for the future Ontario Line subway in the east end. The Stouffville work is meant to enable future two-way, all-day service and access to new stations and connections, along with retaining wall maintenance in the rail corridor.
Lakeshore East has had full-line weekend shutdowns before, including in October and November 2024, and again on the weekend of June 6-7, 2026. In November 2025 both lines were also replaced by buses for a GO Expansion weekend.
Lakeshore East trains are scheduled to resume Monday; Stouffville trains resume Monday as well.
Riders should check Metrolinx's service updates before travelling, since schedules can change.
