Major transit closures this weekend will disrupt travel across Toronto and surrounding regions. GO Transit, UP Express, and the TTC have scheduled significant service halts for August 15 and 16 for construction work.
Metrolinx will shut down the entire 101.4-kilometre GO Barrie Line, halting all train service between Allandale Waterfront and Union Station. Shuttle buses will replace trains between Allandale Waterfront and Rutherford GO, then run direct to the Highway 407 Bus Terminal. Metrolinx advises passengers to use Line 1 connections at Union or Downsview Park to connect to GO bus service, as replacement buses will not serve Downsview Park GO during the closure.
A significant portion of the Kitchener Line will also close for the full weekend. GO buses will replace trains between the new Stratford GO and Mount Pleasant GO stations. The stretch south of Mount Dennis GO will shut down to trains entirely; Metrolinx recommends taking Line 5 from Mount Dennis to connect to Line 1 to reach Union Station.
The entire 23.3-kilometre UP Express will be replaced by shuttle buses. GO buses will run directly between Union Station Bus Terminal and Pearson Airport Terminal 1, while UP Express stations at Bloor, Mount Dennis, and Weston will not be served.
The TTC has announced no service on Line 1 Yonge-University between Sheppard West and St Clair West stations for the entire weekend. Service will shut down early Friday, August 14 at 11:59 p.m. and will not resume until Monday, August 17 morning.
The combined closures affect approximately 160 kilometres of tracks and are part of broader GO Expansion work to bring more frequent two-way, all-day service and infrastructure upgrades including new train platforms and station renovations.
