Two men found shot and burned in vehicles across GTA identified

Marcus Charles, 32, and Mohamud Kheyre, 30, were identified this weekend after their bodies were found in burned-out vehicles at opposite ends of the GTA — marking the 27th and 28th homicides of the year.
Charles's body was discovered in a stolen vehicle in a hydro field near Reesor Road and Steeles Avenue East in Scarborough around 11 p.m. on September 21. Kheyre was found in a rental car in James Gardens Park in Etobicoke just before 1 a.m. on September 22, approximately 90 minutes later. Both men had been fatally shot before their vehicles were set ablaze.
Police say both victims were "targeted," according to Det. Sgt. Henri Marsman. "We are exploring all links, but we do believe they were targeted." However, investigators have not confirmed whether the incidents are connected or whether the two men knew each other. Marsman acknowledged the timing and "commonalities" between the cases but said solid evidence has not yet established a definitive link. "On its face, obviously you can make your own determinations. There are a lot of commonalities, but I have to rely on solid evidence to make that determination, and we are not at that stage yet."
Police say there is no safety risk to the general public. The investigation remains ongoing.
