Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Toronto and parts of Peel, York, Durham, and Halton regions, as well as Hamilton.
A cold front moving over Michigan early Saturday is expected to bring thunderstorms with the strongest impacts expected late morning and early afternoon. Forecasters warn of wind gusts up to 110 km/h, hail ranging from the size of a quarter to a ping pong ball, and rainfall amounts up to 40 millimetres.
The weather agency cautioned that "driving conditions may be difficult. Local utility outages are possible. Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible." Heavy rain could cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility.
The Toronto Caribbean Carnival Junior Parade was postponed one day to Sunday due to the weather forecast.
