Toronto Tempo guard Marina Mabrey will head to the WNBA All-Star Game as a reserve player, marking the first All-Star selection for the franchise and the first for the 6-foot-1 athlete.
"After years of hard work and perseverance, it's incredibly validating to be recognized among the best players in the league," Mabrey said in a team statement.
Mabrey made headlines in June after tying the WNBA single-game scoring record with 53 points against the Los Angeles Sparks. She joins records set by Liz Cambage (Dallas vs. New York, July 17, 2018) and A'ja Wilson (Las Vegas at Atlanta, August 22, 2023). That performance set up Mabrey to also post 113 points across a three-game stretch from June 19 to 25, the league's record for that span.
She is averaging over 20 points per game for the first time in her career and ranks among the league's top five scorers. Head coach Sandy Brondello said Mabrey "embraced every challenge, elevated her game and made everyone around her better." The 22nd annual WNBA All-Star Game takes place July 25 in Chicago.
