Olivia Chow is ahead of Brad Bradford in the Toronto mayoral race, according to a Liaison Strategies poll published late Sunday. The poll, based on responses from 750 random Torontonians collected October 24 and 25, puts Chow at 52 per cent among decided and leaning voters and Bradford at 44 per cent.

The result reverses the previous Liaison survey, which had Bradford ahead by two points. Several polls released the week before had suggested Bradford had edged ahead, within the margin of error. Among all respondents, 6 per cent are undecided, down from 14 per cent.

David Valentin, principal at Liaison, said: "Chow leads Bradford by eight points, reversing the two-point Bradford advantage in our previous survey." He added that turnout will determine how regional preferences translate into a citywide result.

By region, Chow leads in the downtown core, 60 per cent to 35 per cent, and in Scarborough, 51 per cent to 44 per cent. Bradford leads in Etobicoke, 54 per cent to 41 per cent, and in North York, 52 per cent to 46 per cent.

On the weekend, Chow spoke at a Port Lands rally about "a more caring, more affordable and safer city where everyone belongs." Bradford, in Etobicoke, pointed to congestion and wait lists. "If you want to change the city, you have to change the mayor," he said.

Polling stations open at 10 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
