A person died Saturday afternoon after a shooting involving a Toronto police officer in North York.

Officers responded shortly before 1:30 p.m. to reports of a damaged vehicle driving erratically near Wilson and King High avenues. The vehicle had been involved in a collision and the driver attempted to flee the scene, police said. During an interaction with the driver, an officer discharged their firearm. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured.

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit, which investigates incidents involving police and civilians that result in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault, has been notified and is handling the investigation.
