Police investigate unspecified incident at Long Branch GO station in Etobicoke

Police halted GO train service at Long Branch station Saturday evening following an unspecified incident involving a train, Metrolinx said. The transportation agency did not disclose details of what occurred, only that local police investigated while trains were held.

Bus service replaced rail transit from Port Credit to Kipling GO station, connecting to the TTC and Union Station. Service resumed just before 10 p.m.

The station sits at a transit crossroads: it has been a site of serious incidents before. A boy was struck by a Lakeshore West GO Train just west of Long Branch station in Mississauga on a Wednesday afternoon, according to Peel Regional Police. A woman was hit by an express train bypassing Long Branch GO Station while walking near the platform edge, Toronto police reported in a separate incident.

The timing adds pressure on a system already facing disruption. GO Transit is cutting and reducing service on several GTA rail lines starting September 8, with changes expected to continue until spring 2027. The Long Branch incident Saturday was the latest in a series of service disruptions at the station, though the exact nature of what prompted the police response remains undisclosed.
