An early morning fire in Ajax that destroyed one home and damaged two others Monday has been deemed suspicious by police.
Emergency crews arrived shortly after 5 a.m. at the area of Rossland Road W. and Church Street N., where they found one house engulfed in flames. The fire is believed to have started in one home and spread to two others nearby. All three were detached and unoccupied.
Constable Nicholas Gluckstein of Durham Regional Police said officers found evidence suggesting the fire was arson. "At this time, the fire is being treated as suspicious," Gluckstein said Monday. Police would not comment on the nature of the evidence.
One home is believed to have been targeted, according to police. Ontario's Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified and is working with crews to determine the cause. No one was injured.
