The Toronto Humane Society's main location at 11 River Street was forced to close Saturday after vandalism damaged windows in the early morning hours.
Toronto Police Service responded to the scene shortly before 10:30 a.m. Saturday after the incident, which occurred around 2 a.m. A rock may have caused the damage, though police said they were unable to confirm the cause. No one was inside the building at the time, and no staff or animals were harmed.
Society spokesperson Lucas Solowey said the organization's services were unavailable for the day. "We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding," the Toronto Humane Society posted on Facebook. "We look forward to welcoming you back when services resume."
Toronto Police Service is investigating whether the vandalism was targeted or random, according to spokesperson Cindy Chung. No suspect descriptions are currently available, and police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
The organization declined to provide further details until more information could be appropriately shared. The date when the shelter will resume full operations has not been announced.
