Toronto Zoo will reopen Thursday after closing on Canada Day due to a power outage that disrupted guest-facing services across the facility.
The zoo decided to close "out of an abundance of caution" to ensure visitor safety and comfort during an extended heat wave affecting southern Ontario. Despite the outage, animal-care systems remained operational, and the zoo says animals in its care were not negatively impacted.
Dedicated animal welfare teams monitored the animals throughout, and the zoo's outdoor habitats include shaded areas, indoor access, water, misting stations, fans, and ice treats. Zoo staff worked to restore power throughout the evening of Canada Day.
