The deadline to file or withdraw a nomination to run as a candidate for Toronto mayor, councillor or school board trustee in the 2026 municipal election is tomorrow, Friday, August 21 at 2 p.m.
To complete the nomination process, a candidate must: file a nomination paper with original signature; provide proof of name, signature and qualifying address within Toronto or their school board jurisdiction; pay a filing fee of $200 for mayoral candidates or $100 for councillor or trustee candidates; and provide at least 25 endorsements from eligible Toronto voters with original signatures if running for mayor or councillor.
Nominations must be filed in person at the Toronto Elections City Hall office located at 100 Queen Street West, first floor, Permit Alley. The office is normally open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but tomorrow it will accept nominations from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. All completed forms, required documents and identification must be brought in person; both the nomination paper and endorsements must be completed on prescribed forms with original signatures.
The 2026 Toronto municipal election will elect the mayor, 25 city councillors and trustees for four school boards. Until a nomination paper is filed, a person cannot raise or spend money on their campaign. The final list of certified candidates will be available after nominations close on the Toronto Elections website.
