Benne, a new South Indian dosa restaurant, is opening in Kitsilano this summer at 2209 W. 1st Ave.

The kitchen promises dosas built on naturally fermented batter, with spices ground fresh and cooked to order. House sambar and tomato-coconut chutney come with each dosa. Signature offerings include the Benne Masala Dosa, Prawn Ghee Roast Dosa, and Butter Chicken Dosa.

Beyond dosas, the menu features small plates like Curry Leaf Prawn Cake, Onion Bhajia, and Benne Gunpowder Wings. Coffee will come courtesy of Alai Coffee Roasters. The restaurant also plans to offer cocktails, beers, wines, and zero-proof drinks.

"Benne is our neighbourhood kitchen inspired by the cafés and homes of South India," the restaurant describes itself. "Rooted in tradition and shaped by life in Kitsilano, Benne is a place to gather over good food, great coffee, and warm hospitality."

An exact opening date has not yet been announced, but the team expects to launch sometime this summer.
