Bento Cafe YVR, a Japanese bento spot that has drawn strong reviews from its original Kitsilano location, is opening a second location on West 41st Ave. in Kerrisdale.
The existing location at 1822 West 1st Ave. has a 4.5-star Google rating and has built a following for its Teishoku set meals—balanced dishes typically featuring rice, soup, a side, and a main. Pricing hovers around $27 per set, with drink add-ons available for $3 extra.
Bento Cafe runs a seasonal rotating menu. This summer's offerings included a grilled salted mackerel set and an onigiri and ton jiru set, both at $27. Spring saw a Teriyaki Chicken Bowl in rotation. The cafe also features Western-style Yoshoku, blending Japanese ingredients with Western influences. "At Bento Cafe, we bring together the harmony of traditional Teishoku and the cozy flavours of Yoshoku," the restaurant says on its website, where it promises to "Taste Japan in Every Bite."
No official opening date has been set for the Kerrisdale location at 2156 West 41st Ave. The cafe is directing people to follow its Instagram account for updates. "Stay tuned. We can't wait to welcome you!"
