Sumu, a new Japanese restaurant set to open by late July at 888 Burrard Street, is built around a single concept: "One table. Different cravings."

The 130-seat restaurant offers four distinct dining experiences in one place—premium yakitori, customizable nabe (Japanese hot pot), handcrafted drinks, and creative side dishes—all designed so everyone at a table can eat what they prefer without compromise.

"We wanted to create a place where no one at the table has to compromise," said restaurant manager Don Hua. "Whether you come with family, friends, kids or business partners, everyone can eat how they feel and still share the same table."

Sumu is taking over the former Sala Thai location, which Hua describes as a Vancouver legend. "We're taking over that place, wishing that we can bring the legend back to [the space]," he said.

Ahead of its official opening, Sumu launched a founders club campaign on Instagram, offering 100 guests the chance to experience the restaurant before and during its launch period. The top prize winner receives complimentary dining throughout the opening month plus four exclusive group-of-four dining experiences. All other winners receive at least one complimentary dining experience.
