A new South Indian quick-service cafe is taking over an empty space on West Broadway steps from City Hall Station—just as the area prepares for the arrival of the Broadway SkyTrain extension.
Mandhras Cafe, opening at 382 West Broadway, is promising to bring "South Indian soul" to the neighbourhood through a model that pairs traditional recipes with modern cafe efficiency. The signage advertises "coffee, dosa, soup, soul," focusing on tiffins—quick and easy breakfast and lunch options served in traditional steel containers.
"At Mandhras, we aren't just serving coffee and food; we're redesigning the South Indian culinary experience from the ground up," reads the restaurant's LinkedIn bio. "We've taken age-old family recipes and integrated them into a modern, high-efficiency cafe model that never sacrifices authenticity for speed."
The space was previously occupied by The Greek on Broadway, which opened in December 2023 after Heritage Asian Eatery closed. The location has sat empty since September 2025. While no menu has been released yet, the brand plans to expand to multiple locations, positioning itself as a destination for consistent, affordable South Indian meals targeting campuses and offices seeking "a unique cultural connection."
