Starbucks opens at West Broadway and Granville ahead of subway arrival in late 2027

A new Starbucks has opened at The Stories tower on the corner of West Broadway and Granville Street, positioned immediately next to where the future South Granville Station entrance will sit on SkyTrain's Millennium Line Broadway extension.
The 39-storey mixed-use building, completed by developer PCI Development in 2025, has been filling its ground-level retail spaces over the past year. A Royal Bank of Canada branch reopened there, and a 19,000-square-foot Loblaws City Market opened on the second level in June. The new Starbucks is one-for-one replacement for the longtime café inside the Indigo bookstore diagonally across the intersection at the southwest corner, which closed as part of Starbucks' broader North American restructuring.
The chain announced closures of approximately 250 locations across Canada and the United States — roughly one per cent of North American locations. At least three Starbucks in Downtown Vancouver have closed since that announcement.
The real test comes later: the Broadway Subway extension is expected to open to Arbutus in late 2027, at which point foot traffic at the new location is expected to surge. Until then, the spot sits in a retail pocket still rebuilding as West Broadway emerges from the six months of construction disruption that wrapped earlier this year.
