West Broadway is now closed to vehicle traffic between Alberta and Cambie Streets for the next six months as the Broadway Subway Project continues its work.
The closure is needed for repaving and removal of the traffic deck to complete construction of the Millennium Line portion of Broadway City Hall Station. New signage has been posted to alert drivers, and crossing guards are stationed at street corners to direct traffic as needed. Most sidewalks in the area remain open to pedestrians.
Traffic is being temporarily rerouted via 8th Avenue between Alberta and Ash Streets. This means customers looking to shop along West Broadway during the construction may face navigation challenges. Transit buses are also impacted: the number 9 and number 99 B Line are detouring to 8th Avenue with stops shifted along Broadway. TransLink says commuters should prepare for possible delays.
