A new restaurant is opening in Gastown this month that cuts through the paralysis of choice: Entrecôte serves one main course, full stop.
The spot, taking over the former Dix space at 12 Water St., specializes in the Parisian tradition of steak frites. The $44 prix fixe menu opens with a fresh green walnut salad, followed by premium entrecôte steak paired with crispy handmade frites and what the restaurant calls its "sauce secrète" — a recipe the team spent months refining.
"At Entrecôte Restaurant, we have perfected a singular art: the art of steak-frites," the restaurant states on its website. "Every plate is accompanied by our handmade golden frites — crispy on the outside, tender on the inside — and a fresh walnut salad to begin your experience. No choices needed, just pure indulgence."
After the main course, diners can select from a rotating menu of French delicacies served separately: crème brûlée, mousse au chocolat, profiteroles, and more.
The restaurant lists a tentative mid-July opening online. The simplicity of the concept — strip away options, perfect one thing — echoes the philosophy of the famous Parisian Entrecôte locations, where limited menus and a single house sauce have drawn crowds for decades.
