June food events: Chef collaborations and anniversary celebrations
From Suyo's second chef collaboration to a 40-year celebration at the Sutton Place, Vancouver's food calendar is packed this month.
Vancouver's food scene is heading into summer at full speed, with one-night-only chef collaborations, Michelin-starred menus, and anniversary celebrations anchoring June's reservation calendar.
On June 18, chef Ricardo Valverde will host chef Billy Nguyen of Rabbit Rabbit for a collaborative dinner at Suyo (3475 Main Street), the second installment of Suyo's chef-guest series. Given Suyo's reputation for contemporary Peruvian cuisine and Rabbit Rabbit's inventive approach to dining, the one-night event promises inventive plates. The dinner costs $269 inclusive of beverage pairings.
The Fairmont Pacific Rim continues its chef collaboration series with a special dinner on June 8 at The Lobby Lounge & RawBar (1038 Canada Place). Chef Hyunki Shin and the team from Sushi Bar Shu will take over for a seven-course dinner showcasing Japanese technique, exceptional seafood, and seasonal ingredients from Japanese and local waters. Tickets are $225 per person.
Across the city, the Sutton Place Hotel is marking 40 years with a special anniversary brunch on June 6 and 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. (845 Burrard Street). The three-course prix fixe features seasonal starters, brunch classics like Eggs Benedict and Grilled Hanger Steak & Eggs, and a dessert buffet inspired by the hotel's legendary Chocoholic spread. Executive pastry chef Kenta Takahashi reimagined the finale with house-made desserts, signature bonbons, and a flowing chocolate fountain. Cost: $118 per person; $58 for children, plus tax and gratuity.
At the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, Notch8 transforms into a forest-inspired afternoon tea experience through September 20, inspired by the Vancouver Art Gallery's Emily Carr exhibition. Forest-themed décor, cocktails, and a menu celebrating B.C. ingredients will be available Thursdays through Sundays. Cost: $75 adults, $40 children.
Michelin-starred St. Lawrence (269 Powell Street) unveiled a new four-course Table d'Hôte menu celebrating the flavours of Provence through seasonal vegetables, seafood, olive oil, and herbs. Available now, Tuesday through Sunday, at $110 per person.
Wildlight Kitchen + Bar (107-5380 University Boulevard) brings back its popular Vino & Vibes series on June 11, focusing on Montes Purple Angel, one of Chile's most acclaimed wines. Five guided pours and food pairings led by wine director Mike Cooke cost $185.
