Six food events worth booking this month in Vancouver
From escargot to omakase to Vietnamese-Japanese fusion, June brings intimate dinners and pop-ups across the city.
Vancouver's June event calendar is packed with chef-led dinners and special tastings. Here are the ones worth clearing your schedule for.
On Wednesday, June 3, the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts is hosting an Auguste Escoffier Pop-Up Dinner celebrating the father of modern French cuisine. Chef-instructors and PICA students will bring Escoffier's classic dishes to life—Comté Gougères, Consommé Célestine, Filet de Boeuf à la Rossini, and the iconic Pêcha Melba. Tickets are $79.99 plus tax; dinner runs 6 to 9 p.m. at 1505 W. 2nd Ave.
Also June 3 and 4, Chef Henry Kim is presenting intimate nigiri omakase at Coast Restaurant. Multi-course, premium seafood, refined technique. $175 per person, 6 p.m., 1054 Alberni St.
On Sunday, June 7, DD Mau Chinatown hosts Feast and Friends Vol. 5. Chef Tyler Hoang teams up with OKU Izakaya's Takeshi Hasegawa and Shuhari Cocktail's Satoshi Yonemori for a multi-course menu fusing Vietnam and Japan—fresh herbs meet seafood, azuki meets pandan. Two seatings at 5 and 7:30 p.m.; $98 per person. 145 E. Pender St.
Wildlight Kitchen and Bar is bringing back Vino and Vibes on June 11. Wine director Mike Cookie will guide you through five half-glass pours of rare Montes Purple Angel alongside the restaurant's burgers. Three seatings at 6, 6:30, and 7 p.m.; $185 per person, all-inclusive. 5380 University Blvd.
Following its inclusion in Canada's 100 Best Restaurants, Kavita is hosting Kanteen Sundays—a four-part brunch pop-up in collaboration with Alai Coffee. Drawing inspiration from old Mumbai, Irani cafés, and Bombay street culture, the series features a special Indian coffee menu and light canteen-style brunch offerings.
These are the bookings that make summer food worth planning for.
