Odd Burger's Vancouver location in Mount Pleasant is closing July 12, 2026, marking the end of the Canadian vegan burger chain's presence in British Columbia after its Victoria location shuttered earlier this year.
The restaurant, which opened in November 2024 at 2821 Main Street, has struggled with operational challenges. Local owners Stephen and James Wall cited a fundamental business disagreement with Odd Burger's head office as the reason for closure.
"Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we can no longer sustain the business," read a post from the local ownership. "We've been navigating an incredibly stressful and emotional period while trying to find a way forward."
The final issue, according to the owners, centered on head office's decision to discontinue in-house products that were central to the local restaurant's identity. "Ultimately, the final blow came when head office made the decision to discontinue the in-house products that were such an important part of what we believed in and what we signed on for. It changed the direction of the business in a way that no longer aligned with the vision we had when we opened our doors."
Odd Burger launched in 2014 as a produce delivery service before evolving into a plant-based meal kit business in Ontario. The company then expanded into brick-and-mortar burger joints. Eight Odd Burger locations remain in operation across Canada, including two in Edmonton, though one Edmonton location closed in June.
