Spud Shack, Metro Vancouver's poutine heavyweight, opens second location in Surrey

Spud Shack, the poutine restaurant that's been slinging out creations from inside New Westminster SkyTrain Station since 2012, is expanding. A second location will open at The Curling Club in Cloverdale this fall.
The original spot has built a reputation for both traditional and unconventional poutine — gravy and cheese curd, sure, but also The Gaucho "Cowboy" with Argentinian coffee-rubbed beef, beans, charred onions, roasted pepper and chimichurri; Jamba with chorizo, chicken, bacon and shrimp; and The Night Market with ginger beef, spicy mayo, kimchi and crispy wontons.
Beyond poutine, the menu features the Effin' Good Burger: smoked onion mayo, BBQ sauce, bacon, tomato jam, lettuce, pickles and cheddar on a brioche bun with an all-beef patty.
The Curling Club location at 6150 176th Street in Surrey will carry the same approach — wacky builds over minimalist menus, working-class poutine culture with enough personality to draw a line. An exact opening date hasn't been set, but the team is targeting fall.
