June's rainy start is clearing, and patio season is ramping up in Vancouver. For theatre artists working this summer, these outdoor spaces are where the show actually begins—a chance to gather thoughts before stepping on stage or to decompress after the curtain falls.
We spoke to five directors, actors, and artists shaping Vancouver's stages this summer about their favourite patios.
Ming Hudson (Actor, director, and writer)
Hudson's pick is The Wicklow Pub (610 Stamp's Landing, False Creek). "One of the best views in Vancouver," she says. "It's the perfect place to grab a pint and a snack if you are biking to or from a summer show down at Bard on the Beach or on Granville Island." Hudson is making her Bard directorial debut with "Antigone" this summer.
For theatre artists, the patio becomes a transition space—a place to shift from the day's ordinary concerns into the focused energy of performance. These five spots are where Vancouver's creative community gathers before and after the lights go down.
