West End Butcher has opened on Davie Street with a philosophy rooted in Montreal's culinary tradition and B.C. sourcing. Owners Ben Allen and Jesse Samuels—partners in life and business—built the deli concept around Allen's years in the butchery industry and Samuels' family history in Montreal, where they learned the craft.

All fresh meats are sourced directly from B.C. farms. The dry goods—pickles, sauerkraut, dressings—are made by other small business owners around Vancouver. The result is a tight, local supply chain in a city where that's become rarer.

The signature sandwiches carry weight. The Beef stacks pastrami, beef salami, house-made corned beef, Swiss, sauerkraut, pickles, and house-made Russian dressing—a proper deli construction. The Pork is their riff on a Philly, loaded with house roast pork, salsa verde, blanched rapini, and roasted red peppers.

"The idea is to keep it local and sustainable with nose-to-tail butchery," Samuels said. "We're very community-oriented, and we love to feed people, so whether you're looking for the everyday cuts or something unusual, we'll do our best to make sure you get it."

The shop is small and intentional, not a deli-case showcase. It's the kind of place that will likely draw a lunch crowd from nearby offices and residents who are tired of chain options on one of the West End's busiest retail stretches.
