Carnaval del Sol, Western Canada's largest Latin American festival, returns to Jonathan Rogers Park for three days of music, dance, food, art, and soccer, with an opening-night headliner that marks a first for the festival.
Legendary Mexican band El Gran Silencio—over 30 years of shows under their belt, blending rock, reggae, cumbia, and Latin rhythms—will headline the opening concert at 5 p.m. on July 10. It's the iconic band's first Vancouver performance at Carnaval del Sol. After opening night, the festival continues Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12 with two more days of cuisine, live entertainment, and cultural immersion.
The festival, hosted by Latincouver, brings together over 350 artists, numerous vendors, and thousands of attendees. This year's theme—"Play loud, celebrate proud — together we are stronger"—aims to spark the energy, passion, and joy that unite Latin communities, though everyone is invited to enjoy the rhythm, flavour, and spirit of Latin America.
Multiple themed plazas structure the experience. The Plaza del Sol is the heart, hosting explosive concerts and cultural showcases from day to night. A dedicated Sports Plaza features daily soccer tournaments where teams from different countries compete. The Beer Plaza offers cocktails, beer, and wine while DJs spin Latin house, reggaeton, salsa remixes, and tropical beats. A She Latina Plaza showcases women entrepreneurs and creators. There's a family-friendly spot for kids and youth, and a dedicated wellness space for seniors.
You can take a gastronomic journey across Latin America, sampling sizzling street vendors to elevated regional specialties. Indigenous ceremonies from both Latin America and Canada will be woven into the event. The final day includes a colourful Latin American Parade.
General admission is $15 for a one-day pass (July 11 or 12); kids and seniors are free. Opening Night Concert tickets are $55 in advance, with sales ending June 26.
