Carnavalito festival brings 60 Latin American artists and food to Douglas Park in Langley

Carnavalito on the Road, a travelling Latin American cultural festival, is coming to Langley on Sunday, Sept. 6, from noon to 8:30 p.m. at Douglas Park. The free event brings over 60 artists and dozens of food vendors to celebrate Latin American traditions.

Described by organizers as "a celebration that travels with community," Carnavalito expands Carnaval del Sol—the largest Latin American festival in the Pacific Northwest—beyond its Vancouver base to reach other communities across British Columbia.

The Main Plaza stage will feature Los Jaivas, a legendary Chilean rock band formed in the 1960s, alongside Vancouver-based acts the Sonora Kings, 9/12 Band, and Bolivian Roots. Throughout the day, expect colourful folkloric dance performances from Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, plus salsa, cosmic cumbia, and Brazilian funk.

Families with children will find a dedicated kids' stage with full-day activities including facepainting, crafts, Zumba classes, a magic show by Jokus Pocus, Spanish music performances, and puppet shows. The Food Plaza will offer traditional and contemporary Latin American dishes—tacos, quesabirrias, empanadas, ceviche, arepas, and more. The event accepts donations online or at the door; no admission fee. Carnavalito is organized by Latincouver, a non-profit creating cultural programming to foster relationships and exchanges among Canadians and Latin Americans living in British Columbia.
