Italian Day, one of Vancouver's most popular and largest free cultural festivals, is taking over Commercial Drive on Sunday, June 14. Starting at noon and running until 8 p.m., the beloved street festival will transform a 14-block stretch of historic Little Italy into a car-free zone packed with thousands of Vancouverites.
Road closures will begin earlier in the day and stretch into the evening, affecting Commercial Drive from Venables Street to North Grandview Highway, as well as side streets and nearby alleys. Venables, East 1st Avenue, and Grandview will remain open to through traffic. The City of Vancouver encourages visitors to walk, cycle, or take public transit—a bike valet will offer secure parking near the festival's centre, and the Commercial–Broadway Station is just steps away.
Over 100 food vendors and trucks will line the Drive, from cannoli stands to pasta bars to wood-fired pizza trucks. Seven intersections and Grandview Park will transform into Piazza-style cultural destinations with live music, DJs, fashion shows, and cultural performances. Three licensed beverage gardens will offer beer, wine, and spirits. For families, there's a children's zone, pasta-eating contests, and human foosball.
Live entertainment and merchants will keep the energy high throughout the day. Expect dance parties on the street and the kind of crowd energy that makes this festival a rite of passage for the neighbourhood and the city.
