One of B.C.'s largest music festivals is coming to Cloverdale—and it's all free. Legionpalooza will take over the Cloverdale Legion from Friday, July 31, through Monday, August 3, featuring four days of music with 32 bands.
Organizer Gregory Crane said the festival will include nine tribute bands playing music from Elvis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots, British Rock, Tom Petty, and more. A Journey tribute (Lights Vancouver) will open Friday at 4 p.m., followed by one band playing every hour throughout the weekend. "The switchover has to be pretty fast," Crane said.
Every band has donated their time. The festival is a fundraiser to renovate the Legion, whose 85-year-old siding is rotting badly. Crane said they want the siding replaced by March 2027, when the Cloverdale Legion will celebrate its 100th anniversary. The Royal Canadian Legion celebrated its own 100th anniversary on July 17.
Legionpalooza is free to attend, though organizers are giving out 2,000 tickets to manage capacity. The venue's maximum capacity at any given time is 500, so Crane expects it will be busy all weekend. Fundraising initiatives include a silent auction and 50/50 draws. Free tickets can be picked up at the Legion's main office or bar. The Legion is seeking 20 additional volunteers to help with sound, roading, beer garden service, ticket checking, security, and fundraising. Interested people can email legion6venue@gmail.com.
