The Cloverdale Station Summer Music Festival returns to the platform at the Fraser Valley Heritage Railway Society train station in Surrey, running from June 27 through August 30—two months of free live music for anyone stopping by.
Two performances bookend each day: a set beginning at 11 a.m. and another at 1 p.m., each running one hour. Performances unfold on the patio under a large white awning on Saturdays and Sundays, featuring an "exciting variety of music" according to Allen Aubert, FVHRS secretary.
Visitors attending the Heritage Railway Adventure on Saturdays or the Sullivan Excursion—a 50-minute interurban ride to Sullivan Park—on Sundays get to catch the festival. "Many visitors come both days," Aubert said.
This marks the third annual festival. Feedback from last year was "extremely positive," and that encouragement led the society to host it again during their 25th anniversary season. "Many people discovered the heritage railway through the music festival," Aubert noted.
The city supported the festival through a Cultural Grant. FVHRS has an unprecedented number of volunteers this year—around 30 on site Saturdays and Sundays—after a growing public response to the society's activities. Visitor attendance at the heritage railway was up nearly 40 per cent in May alone.
Lineup highlights include Eric James (June 27), The Halifax Wharf Rats (July 4), Johnny Elvis (July 11), The Dimes (July 18), Mark Hildebrand (August 8), and Sister Todd (August 29). Bring your own refreshments; admission is free.
The Fraser Valley Heritage Railway Society operates out of Cloverdale Station and a restoration car barn at Highway 10 and 176A Street.
