Deckchair Cinema returns to The Polygon Gallery's waterfront Cates Deck this summer for its fifth year, running 10 Thursdays from June 25 to August 27 with screenings beginning at sundown.

Admission is by donation (courtesy of BMO Financial Group) and includes popcorn plus access to the gallery's summer exhibitions. Live music and entertainment precede each screening — acts include WAIT/LESS, Jody Glenham, Reveal Yourself, Secret Beaches, and Cascadia. The concession stand will offer food from Nook and drinks from Strathcona Beer Company.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs, though some seating will be provided. VIP picnic benches and seats can be reserved by donating in advance.

This year's lineup focuses on sports films. The series opens with two contrasting soccer stories: Jafar Panahi's Iranian New Wave classic Offside (June 25) and Stephen Chow's kung-fu action-comedy Shaolin Soccer (later). Prince's concert masterpiece Sign O' The Times screens with his legendary 2007 Halftime Show. Baseball's trailblazing story A League of Their Own pairs with Ryan Coogler's modern classic Creed and BMX cult favourite RAD.

August 27 features audience voting to decide the final film: Raiders of the Lost Ark or Jurassic Park.

The setting — a waterfront deck with the North Shore visible — makes for an unforgettable summer evening. Arrive early to secure a good spot.
