Deckchair Cinema returns to North Vancouver's Shipyards this summer with a carefully curated sports lineup, transforming Cates Deck into an open-air cinema where locals and visitors can catch films with ocean breeze and sunset views.

For the fourth year, the Polygon Gallery presents the series, and this year's theme—sports—syncs perfectly with the FIFA World Cup. Starting June 25 at 7 p.m., screenings happen every Thursday through August 27, featuring everything from soccer and baseball to boxing, skateboarding, and BMX racing.

The 10-film lineup includes offbeat picks: Jafar Panahi's Offside (June 25), Shaolin Soccer (July 2), Speed Racer paired with North Shore Pride Week drag performances (July 30), and Creed (August 6). Best in Show headlines a Bring Your Dog to the Movies Night (July 16) with organizers planning their own canine competition beforehand.

Community activities deepen the experience. A Greg Girard opening celebration precedes Sign O' The Times + The Halftime Show on July 9. Local musician Jody Glenham performs ahead of A League of Their Own (August 13). Skate or Die Night (July 23) showcases locally connected skateboard films Machotaildrop and Joe Buffalo.

Admission is by donation and includes popcorn plus access to the Polygon Gallery's summer exhibitions, including works by James Harry, Simranpreet Anand, and Greg Girard. Bring your own chair or use limited on-site seating; VIP picnic benches are available for those who donate in advance.

The waterfront setting—with the gallery's award-winning architecture as backdrop—makes this less like a typical outdoor screening and more like a civic gathering where cinema, sports, and community collide.
