Outdoor movie season is arriving at The Polygon Gallery in North Vancouver's Shipyards District. The fifth annual Deckchair Cinema kicks off Thursday, June 25, on Lower Lonsdale's waterfront deck and runs weekly through August 27.
Admission is by donation, courtesy of BMO Financial Group, and includes free entrance to The Polygon Gallery's summer exhibitions. Live music and entertainment begin at 7 p.m., with films starting at sundown. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs—VIP picnic benches can be reserved by donation in advance. The concession stand will feature food by Nook and drinks from Strathcona Beer Company. Cates Deck is a public space zoned for alcohol consumption.
This summer's lineup leans into sports: Jafar Panahi's "Offside" (June 25), "Shaolin Soccer" (July 2), "Best in Show" (July 16), "Creed" (Aug. 6), "A League of Their Own" (Aug. 13), "RAD" (Aug. 20), and audience-choice night between "When We Were Kings" and "Enter the Dragon" (Aug. 27). Special events include "Sign O' The Times + The Halftime Show" (July 9) as part of the Greg Girard opening celebration, "Bring Your Dog To The Movie Night" on July 16, and North Shore Pride Week drag party on July 30 with "Machotaildrop" and live performances.
Free popcorn will be available throughout the season. The waterfront location—with views of the city and mountains—makes this the kind of summer evening Vancouver residents plan around.
