Vancouver's Summer Lights fireworks return to English Bay on Friday, July 31, offering a free one-night celebration on the waterfront with expanded transit service and waterfront dining options for those looking to reserve seats.
The City of Vancouver is hosting the event with production by BrandLIVE and support from the Vancouver park board. It's the second major fireworks display across Metro Vancouver this month.
For spectators hoping to avoid beach crowds, four waterfront bars and restaurants are offering patio seating with views. Papi's Seafood and Oyster Bar offers full-service dining on a walk-in, first-come, first-serve basis with no minimum spend, though guests are required to purchase food and beverages for patio seating — drink-only guests sit indoors with a maximum 90-minute seating time.
Hook Restaurant, steps from the beach, opens fireworks seating at 8 p.m. with a $50 minimum spend and two-hour seating limit on a first-come, first-serve basis. Indoor dining operates normally with no minimum and a two-hour limit.
Bayside Lounge is hosting a Summer Lights viewing with a $50 minimum spend per person and recommends arriving early as seating is first-come, first-serve. A DJ performs after the show.
For a splurge, Harbour Cruises Ltd. is offering a fireworks dinner cruise from 8 to 11 p.m. for $219 (before gratuity and taxes), featuring front-row views from the water, a full buffet dinner, licensed bar, and live entertainment.
TransLink is boosting service significantly. Special pre-event shuttles run from Burrard Station to Denman and West Georgia streets from 6 to 9:30 p.m., and special post-event shuttles depart from Bidwell and West Georgia streets. For West and North Vancouver-bound riders, shuttles leave from West Georgia and Denman streets. Routes 5, 6, and 23 will be rerouted due to street closures, and SkyTrain will run every two to three minutes before and after the fireworks. SeaBus operates every 10 minutes from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. Bikes won't be permitted on SkyTrain after 10:30 p.m. until crowds clear. Extra Transit Police, security, SkyTrain attendants, and volunteers will staff stations.
