Newton festival celebrates Car Free Day on Saturday
Free music, dance, food trucks fill 137 Street in Surrey June 6, noon to 8 p.m.
Newton Town Centre will transform into a car-free celebration Saturday, June 6, as Surrey hosts its fifth annual Car Free Day festival.
Admission is free. From noon to 8 p.m., 137 Street south of 74 Avenue closes to traffic, creating space for live music and dance performances, climbing wall, bounce houses, games, food trucks, and market vendors. All ages welcome.
"Whether you're grooving to live beats, cheering on talented dancers, or soaking up the sunshine with a snack in hand, Car Free Day Surrey is your go-to summer kickoff," the festival organizers promised.
Sponsors include the Newton Business Improvement Association, TransLink, City of Surrey, and Amazon. Last June's event drew crowds in sunny weather, proving the festival's appeal as an early-summer gathering spot.
Parking and transit details: Check SureyNow-Leader or the City of Surrey website for lot information and TransLink service in the area. The closed section of 137 Street will be fully accessible on foot — arrive early to find a spot if driving nearby.
