A structure fire in a Burnaby A&W restaurant closed Kingsway in both directions Monday afternoon, with 32 firefighters battling a deep-seated blaze that extended into the building's structural components.

Burnaby RCMP responded to the incident at 3:20 p.m. at Kingsway near the intersection of Arcola Street and Southoaks Crescent. The road closure remains in effect between Gillley Avenue and Sperling Avenue.

Deputy Fire Chief Ian Hetherington described the challenge: "The fire is within the structural components of the building. It is a stubborn, deep-seated fire."

Corporal Mike Kalanj said police could not provide a timeline for when the road would reopen, as officers remained on scene with the investigation ongoing. No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
