Burnaby RCMP seek witnesses after sexual assault near Royal Oak SkyTrain Station

Police are investigating a sexual assault and a related suspicious person report in the same area on July 9, and are asking for video evidence from residents.

Burnaby RCMP is investigating a sexual assault that occurred near Royal Oak SkyTrain Station on July 9, and is asking anyone with information to come forward.

According to police, a woman was walking alone around 11:30 p.m. when she was grabbed from behind. "An altercation ensued," Mounties said. "The victim resisted and screamed, which caused the suspect to stop."

About 30 minutes later, police received a report of a suspicious man outside a ground-floor apartment in the same area. While investigators cannot currently confirm whether the two incidents are related, they are urging anyone who witnessed either event to contact them.

"Our officers continue to canvass the area for video, so if you have captured an image or video from your doorbell camera or dashcam video, we would like to hear from you," said Cpl. Mike Kalanj. No injuries have been reported in either incident.
