Burnaby RCMP arrested a robbery suspect in less than nine minutes after the alleged theft at a business near Lougheed Highway and Sperling Avenue on July 17 around 7:20 a.m.
The victim provided a detailed description of the suspect, who fled the area on foot and then by bike before police arrived. Officers caught up to the suspect just west of Kensington Avenue nine minutes later. The arrest did not go smoothly: the suspect refused to obey police commands and a short foot chase ensued. While fleeing, the suspect was taken into custody on a patch of grass beside Lougheed Highway. Police recovered all stolen items and the suspect's kit.
The suspect, a 40-year-old Burnaby resident, could potentially be charged with robbery, uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and breach of probation.
