Chicago Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard underwent surgery to repair his left shoulder after suffering an injury during a summer skate in Burnaby.
On Thursday, July 2, video footage captured Bedard appearing to catch a rut during a half-ice drill at Scotia Barns, also known as 8 Rinks, in Burnaby. He went down hard and left the ice clutching his shoulder.
The Blackhawks announced Wednesday morning that Bedard had successful surgery and expect him to make a full recovery in approximately four months. Based on that timeline, he will likely miss roughly six weeks of the regular season.
The injury is particularly frustrating for the 20-year-old, who has struggled with injuries early in his NHL career. He was sidelined for 12 games in 2025-26 with a right shoulder injury and missed time in his rookie season with a broken jaw.
Bedard scored 30 goals and 75 points in the 2025-26 season and is currently a restricted free agent. He is expected to sign a significant contract following Leo Carlsson's five-year, $90-million offer sheet with the Philadelphia Flyers.
