Woman killed, man critical after train hits pickup truck near Maple Ridge

A pickup truck was struck by a train on Lougheed Highway on Wednesday afternoon. RCMP is investigating all possible factors.

A woman died and a man was transported to hospital in critical condition after a pickup truck collided with a train on Wednesday, September 30 near Maple Ridge.

Emergency crews were called around 2 p.m. to the area of Lougheed Highway and River Road. BC Emergency Health Services pronounced the woman dead at the scene. The man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The pickup truck sustained significant damage in the collision. The train operator cooperated with police at the scene.

RCMP's Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) is investigating. Police are looking into all possible factors surrounding the crash. Officers spoke to potential witnesses on scene. No other injuries were reported.
