The Independent Investigations Office has been called to investigate a police-involved crash near the King George SkyTrain station that left a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries.
At approximately 3 a.m. Monday, September 7, Surrey Police attempted to stop a black Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck near the intersection of King George Boulevard and 96 Avenue. The stop resulted in a collision between the truck and a police vehicle. After the initial impact, the truck traveled north along King George Boulevard before crashing head-on into a concrete pillar near the King George SkyTrain station.
The driver of the pickup truck sustained serious injuries. A pedestrian at the scene suffered life-threatening injuries.
The IIO is automatically called whenever a death or serious injury occurs in connection with police action, regardless of circumstances. At the conclusion of its investigation, the chief civilian director will consider whether there are reasonable grounds to believe an offence may have occurred.
