Woman killed in bicycle crash near North Vancouver

A Vancouver woman in her 60s was killed in a collision involving her bicycle and a commercial truck near Norgate, North Vancouver, on Monday morning, June 29.
The crash occurred at 7:45 a.m. at the corner of West First Street and MacKay Road. According to North Vancouver RCMP, the truck driver was turning left on a green light from West First onto MacKay when the woman attempted to cross West First from the south side of the intersection.
Photos from the scene show her bike pinned below the rear right tire of the truck. Police and paramedics attempted life-saving efforts, but she was pronounced deceased in hospital. "This was a tragic incident resulting in the loss of life," said Cpl. Mansoor Sahak, North Vancouver RCMP spokesperson. "The RCMP are conducting a thorough investigation and are working with partner agencies including Integrated Collision Analyst Reconstruction Service to determine what happened."
The truck was towing a wood chipper and was branded with a North Vancouver-based arborist company's logo. Police are still seeking witnesses and dashcam footage from anyone in the area at the time.
The intersection of First and MacKay is where the busy Spirit Trail reconnects with public roadways. To the west there are protected bike lanes; the route going east has only painted lanes. The RCMP closed West First Street while the Integrated Collision Analyst Reconstruction Service conducted their investigation.
