North Vancouver RCMP on Thursday announced charges against Iraj Mozaffari, 57, head coach and founder of the Toop o Toor Volleyball Club. He faces 10 sexual offences: three counts of sexual interference of a person under 16, two counts of touching a young person for a sexual purpose, and five counts of sexual assault.

The alleged incidents occurred between January 2016 and December 2024. Four of the five known victims were girls under 18 at the time; one victim was an adult. Police launched an investigation in April 2025 after receiving multiple reports in December 2024 that teenagers had been sexually assaulted by a volleyball coach at the club.

Mozaffari was an accomplished player before immigrating to Canada from Iran. He captained Iran's national youth team, the Iran B national team, and later served as coach of Iran's national team.

Following a Thursday court appearance, Mozaffari was released on conditions including surrendering travel documents and prohibition from teaching, coaching, or mentoring anyone under 18 in sports or other settings. He is also barred from visiting public parks, swimming pools, or recreation areas where children under 16 are likely to be present. He is due back in court July 15.

Cpl. Mansoor Sahak praised the victims for their courage. Anyone experiencing trauma related to past sexual offences can call the RCMP victim services unit at 604-969-7540.
