Hé Made, a contemporary Cantonese dessert house, opened its doors June 2 in Richmond with a mission to serve wrinkled skin milk pudding — tong sui — with a fresh perspective.
The 30-seat space blends contemporary Chinese design with warmth: communal seating beneath a tree, natural wood textures, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking passing SkyTrains and the bustling main strip.
The menu centers on the signature wrinkled skin milk pudding — renowned for its silky custard topped with a wrinkled exterior — alongside items like Golden Cassava Ginger Soup, Traditional Freshly Ground Black Sesame Paste, and house-made Egg Tarts. A DIY Series features a whole stewed pear that can be personalized with different toppings. The Snow Ice series offers shaved ice creations paired with fresh fruits.
Drink options include a Super CoCo Slush, Hand-Crushed Bitter Melon Lemon Tea, Hé Fruit Tea, and Mochi Taro CoCo.
The space feels both contemporary and grounded — the kind of neighborhood spot where locals can linger over dessert without fanfare. It's the sort of place that fills a gap: familiar enough to feel welcoming, thoughtful enough to suggest real craft.
