West Shore RCMP is investigating reports of a violent online group known as the "764," part of a larger network called "The COM," that targets and recruits children ages eight to 17.

According to police, The COM operates across popular platforms including Discord, Telegram, Roblox, Minecraft, Twitch, and other streaming services. The groups conduct illegal activities that glorify serious violence, cruelty, and gore, and use grooming tactics — including starting trusting or romantic relationships — to desensitize and radicalize children.

RCMP say predators employ coercive tactics to manipulate victims into engaging in self-harm, sexual abuse, animal cruelty, and acts of violence. They may also encourage victims to record or photograph themselves or others in sexually explicit situations.

Parents and guardians should watch for warning signs: new online friends the child seems infatuated with or scared of, anonymous gifts or items arriving at home, interest in gore or true-crime content, spending more unsupervised time online, or requests for money.

If you suspect a child is being exploited, contact local police or the RCMP's tip line. More information on predatory tactics and reporting is available on the RCMP website.
