RCMP are investigating three reports of a violent online exploitation group targeting children and youth in the West Shore.

The group, known as the "764," is part of a larger online network called "The COM" — a virtual community where members conduct illicit activities that glorify serious violence, cruelty, and gore. The COM deliberately targets and recruits vulnerable children ages 8 to 17, radicalizing them to violence through desensitization tactics.

These groups operate on popular platforms including Discord, Telegram, Roblox, Minecraft, Twitch, and other streaming services. Using grooming methods that range from establishing trusting or romantic relationships to coercive tactics, predators encourage victims to engage in serious violence, self-harm, or gore activities. This can include recording sexually explicit content, committing sexual acts, harming or killing animals, self-harm, or attempting suicide.

Parents and guardians should watch for warning signs: a child with a new online "friend" they seem infatuated with or scared of; receiving anonymous gifts or gaming currency; demonstrating interest in gore content, self-harm, suicide, or true crime; writing in blood or what appears to be blood; spending excessive unsupervised time online; or asking for money more often than usual.

RCMP urge parents to maintain open communication with children about healthy online relationships, monitor online activities, and familiarize themselves with all apps and technology their children use. Anyone who believes a child is being targeted should report to Cybertip.ca or local police immediately. For immediate danger, call 911.

This is a serious threat circulating in spaces where young people spend their time.
