White Rock's Snowbirds aerial show on Aug. 12 may be one of the last with iconic Tutor Jets

White Rock residents and visitors will have the chance to witness a free Canadian Forces Snowbirds aerial demonstration over the city's waterfront on Wednesday, Aug. 12 — and it may be one of the last opportunities to see the iconic aircraft in action.

The Snowbirds have been flying since 1971, making this year's performance their 55th anniversary. The team will showcase their "exceptional" teamwork and skill with a 45-minute performance beginning at 5:30 p.m. The display will use Semiahmoo Bay and White Rock's iconic pier as a backdrop.

"The Snowbirds are a true showcase of Canadian pride, and we are incredibly excited to welcome them back to White Rock," said White Rock Mayor Megan Knight. "With the Semiahmoo Bay and our iconic pier as the backdrop, this will be a memorable event for our community. We look forward to seeing everyone come together for this thrilling experience."

The city notes this will mark the end of an era. After more than five decades of service, this may be one of the last opportunities to witness the Canadian CT-114 Tutor Jets being used by the 431 Air Demonstrations Team. The Snowbirds are set to transition away from the Tutor Jets and instead will be flying new CT-157 Siskin II aircrafts by the 2030 season.

Event attendees are encouraged to walk, cycle, carpool, or take transit to this free waterfront showcase. The event is open to the public and admission is free.
