Conditions have been challenging in the hunt for a charter fishing boat that sank Sunday in the Strait of Georgia, leaving six people missing and presumed drowned.
Richmond RCMP say the search area is in very deep waters—between 150 and 180 metres—which has slowed the effort. The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team and West Coast Marine Services are using sonar to locate the vessel. A slack tide when currents aren't moving was expected Thursday afternoon and could provide a better window for teams to work.
Four people were rescued from the water and treated for hypothermia. The investigation is being led by the Richmond Serious Crimes Unit. Even after the vessel is found, recovering it could take days, says Cpl. Frank Bryson of the Richmond RCMP.
